The Problem & The Solution
Online content producers have 3 options for getting paid for their hard work: use advertising, put up a subscription paywall, or request donation. None of these are good for users. Centiments is a browser extension that fixes these problems through partnerships with content providers to allow small payments for donations, ad free browsing, and individual pieces of paywalled content, like single news stories. Our browser extension lets the user support any creator on the internet in 2 clicks and creators get paid quickly and easily using their personal page and Stripe account integration.

Design Process
Research
In order to understand our usability and necessity, we conducted initial research to learn more about current issues within content payment and how users support their favorite creators online. We surveyed and interviewed 20 people, finding that more than 60% of respondents said that the main reasons they did not support content creators online were:
Competitive Analysis
To better understand current products, we explored the top 4 competitors in the payments space. This analysis along with our user interviews indicated to us that there is a space for Centiments as users want to complete their tasks and support creators easily.
Ideate
We defined success as providing our users the ability to support content creators quickly and with low donation amounts. Our interviews and previous competitive analyses showed us that supporters want to be able to give small amounts to creators in a quick and easy way.
User Flow
Centiments’ interface is built around a two-click process. We want to make it easy for users to support content online quickly. We reduced cognitive overhead by removing long forms or checkout processes from our extension.
Interface
Based on the user flows, we constructed the information architecture in a way that there was minimal difficulty accessing information and completing a task. The goal of the interface was to keep the extension unique and vibrant. We were inspired by our tagline, “show the love” and therefore wanted to create a design that captured this idea. We used rounded corners and vibrant colors, along with large icons to achieve this.

Centiments allows for a low-frictions process, requiring just two clicks from the user. It’s simple for creators to integrate, needing just one link and it’s a low cost. We desired to create a product that lets users choose which content and creators they support and creators get paid properly for their work. We strive to make online publishing work for everyone. A browser extension that fits seamlessly into your lifestyle and reduces friction when trying to support online content. Although we’ve only begun to scratch the surface of what’s possible, we believe Centiments will help create a better internet experience for everyone.
